I'm so excited!

Yes! I'm joining the Peace Corps (PC) and leaving for Mauritania, Africa. On June 17th I'm leaving for Atlanta, Georgia and after 3 days of Orientation with other PC Volunteers (PCV) it's on to Senegal for a 6 hour (give or take a couple hours) bus ride to Rosso, Mauritania for 3 months of intense training.
Along with a record-high 135 other trainees, I'll learn about culture, safety, language (probably one or 2 of several Arabic dialects), etc while living with a local host family.
This is a chance of a life time and I can't thank you enough for your love and support! I'll be keeping you updated for the next 27 months!

I'm so excited to be able to read about all of your adventures. I'm sure it'll be a far cry from a summer spent in Paris, but completely rewarding on a whole new level. I once entertained notions of going into the Peace Corp, so I'm definitely getting to live vicariously through you.
Take care,
Leslie Hembree(from AUP in case you've forgotten!)

Michele called and she has made it safely to Mauritania! She and Clarisse had a great reunion as all were surprised that the two knew each other from home. Michele is learning quickly about food, clothing, and hygiene. She went to the bazaar with Clarisse and purchased colorful cloth to have her first authentic outfit made. She also has a cell phone (apparently it is very common and there is great reception). Michele is very happy, if a little jet lagged still. Her address is: Michelle Hernandez, PCV (line 1); Corps de la Paix (line 2); BP222 (line 3); Nouakchott, Mauritania (line 4); West Africa (line 5)

Was great to see you at your open house Michele. Loved seeing you playing with all the children there and the smile it brought to your face. Will miss seeing you in the different places that brought us together (Dad's office, lunch, home get togethers and trips to Mulege. Enjoy your new life as I know you will.

Hi Michelle, This is Mr. Llewellyn, the other half of the famous Mr. and Mrs. Llewellyn combo. I just want to say how proud I am of you for your willingness to make this world a better place. This will pay off in ways that you can't imagine. The world needs more people like you. I will check in periodically and follow your progress, and continue to get updates from mom.
